Things to Do in City Island

NYC's Best Kept Secret

If you’re in the mood for adventure during your stay in the Bronx, look no further than the quaint fishing village known as City Island. This small island is located just off the Bronx’s own Pelham Bay Park, surrounded by the waters of the Long Island Sound.

With a history dating back to the 1700s, City Island cemented itself as an important shipbuilding and yachting center during the 19th and 20th centuries. Today, the island remains a unique hub for boating and incredible seafood. Those visiting from NYC will relish in the distinct coastal New England atmosphere of the town—a perfect weekend escape close to home.

Discover some of the top attractions and restaurants in City Island to start planning your trip to one of the best kept secrets in the NYC area.

Dining

City Island’s history begins with its relationship to boating and fishing. Needless to say, this has made for some amazing fresh seafood dining options. Well known favorites, such as Johnny’s Reef and Seafood City, should be the first stops on any tour of the island. Those looking for some non-seafood fare still have plenty to choose from. The slightly more upscale Bistro SK offers a selection of French cuisine, while Ohana Japanese Hibachi Seafood & Steakhouse provides delicious Japanese cuisine, suitable for almost any palate.

Shopping

City Island’s unique culture can be seen in the variety of shopping options in the city. Get a taste for the arts and find one-of-a-kind souvenirs at local galleries such as Kaleidoscope Gallery, Starving Artist Café & Gallery and jewelry store Calico Juno Designs. Those interested in spending some time on the water will be glad for the supplies available at the historic Jack’s Bait and Tackle.
